making a doc to find out Martin Short dating tea is so valid
“I wasn’t a female, I was a clown.”when avril chown said this about getting to be in godspell, I was like wow what a lovely thing to say when you are doing a certain kind of comedy where it’s not about gender it’s about being so true to the gag that it doesn’t matter! but then later in the doc when she revealed she didn’t continue in the entertainment industry because she was sexually assaulted, i thought back to this quote. how special godspell was that she got to be a clown, and how right after that she was seen just as female nothing more and it made her literally sick. it makes ME sick!! how many talented and funny and joyous women have been robbed of this!! anyway lovely documentary about lovely people and it had me crying so much, I think canadians are so cool and musical theater is so cool and comedy is so cool and this production really is the ultimate “if I had a time machine” moment.may we all be young and smart and dumb and silly ESPECIALLY women like avril and gilda and andrea and jane and valda who were clowns then so we can be clowns now :’) you are the light of the world
