The Academy of Ancient Music performs septets by Ludwig van Beethoven and Johann Nepomuk Hummel, highlighting the wit and energy of the Romantic revolution. Beethoven's Septet, once his most popular work, is presented as a playful 'pocket symphony.' The programme also features Hummel's Piano Septet No. 1, a piece that captures the elegance and vitality of a new era. The performance showcases a slimmed-down ensemble but maintains the enormous musical personalities of two giants who shared a famously irreverent friendship.
