Jakub Józef Orliński joins Il Pomo d'Oro for a performance of Stradella's 17th-century oratorio, San Giovanni Battista, at the Barbican. Tickets on Mood.
The Biblical tale of John the Baptist is brought to life in Alessandro Stradella's character-driven 17th-century oratorio. Unlike traditional Latin oratorios of the time, this work features an emotionally direct Italian libretto and vividly expressive music. The drama follows St John as he critiques King Herod's court, leading to his imprisonment and eventual execution at the request of Salome. The performance features a sequence of 40 arias, recitatives, duets, and choruses. Acclaimed countertenor Jakub Józef Orliński leads the cast in this production, which highlights Stradella's human-centric approach to musical storytelling.
The performance is held at the Barbican Centre in London on May 17, 2027.
The production features countertenor Jakub Józef Orliński alongside the ensemble Il Pomo d'Oro, conductor Francesco Corti, and vocalists Emmanuelle De Negri, Alex Rosen, and Jiayu Jin.
