Stradella's San Giovanni Battista
A nostalgic, slow-burn opera night.
The Biblical tale of John the Baptist is brought to life in Alessandro Stradella's character-driven 17th-century oratorio. Unlike traditional Latin oratorios of the time, this work features an emotionally direct Italian libretto and vividly expressive music. The drama follows St John as he critiques King Herod's court, leading to his imprisonment and eventual execution at the request of Salome. The performance features a sequence of 40 arias, recitatives, duets, and choruses. Acclaimed countertenor Jakub Józef Orliński leads the cast in this production, which highlights Stradella's human-centric approach to musical storytelling.
