Jan Němec was a pioneering Czech filmmaker and a leading figure of the Czechoslovak New Wave during the 1960s.
He is best known for directing avant-garde and surrealist works such as Diamonds of the Night and The Party and the Guests.
His films blend dream realism, political allegories, and experimental narratives that were frequently suppressed by the communist regime.
He is closely associated with Prague's FAMU film school and the broader Czechoslovak New Wave movement.
