After working for years as a production designer, he became known for writing and directing the period horror films The Witch (2015), The Lighthouse (2019) and Nosferatu (2024), as well as co-writing and directing the Viking action film The Northman (2022). Noted for his attention to historical period detail, his films often incorporate elements of folklore and mythology.
