Agatchu

Chris Hamiwest, known as Agatchu, is a rising singer-songwriter and producer based in Paris, Luanda, and Lisbon. He began his musical journey as a teenager rapping and later formed a band in high school and organizing local music festivals for students. Agatchu draws inspiration from a diverse array of influences, ranging from the protest music of legends like Lucky Dube, Alpha Blondy, Bonga, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Lokua Kanza and Papa Wemba to the innovative sounds of contemporary artists such as Kanye West, Polo da Don, and Lil Wayne. His decision to produce his own beats, despite financial constraints that made purchasing beats online challenging, has proven to be highly beneficial. Today, he works as a composer and songwriter for various Afrobeat artists, playing a significant role in their global success. Fluent in four languages—French, English, Spanish, and Portuguese—Agatchu gained this proficiency through extensive travel across various African and European countries. These experiences have influenced his evolving musical style, which now blends folk, Afro, and pop elements. With a remarkable gift for storytelling, Agatchu captivates audiences through his use of tribal melodies. He describes himself as a generator, with his music embodying frequencies that carry spiritual and therapeutic qualities.
