Aleksandra Mikulska

Aleksandra Mikulska’s playing can be characterized as sincere and personal. In concert, the charismatic pianist aims to lift the curtain on new and unfamiliar worlds and to move her listeners – whether through the works of Johann Sebastian Bach, Joseph Haydn, Franz Liszt or her compatriot Frédéric Chopin – with her utter absorption in the music. Growing up in Chopin’s home city Warsaw, as a child Aleksandra Mikulska developed an intense love of the composer’s piano music and went on to win the “Best Polish Pianist” prize in the 2005 Chopin Piano Competition. Her studies took her to Mannheim, Karlsruhe (Peter Eicher), Imola (Lazar Berman, Michel Dalberto) and Hanover (Arie Vardi). Aleksandra Mikulska has performed with renowned orchestras under the batons of Michael Sanderling, Pawel Przytocki, Kaspar Zehnder, Johannes Schlaefli, Stefan Fraas and Philippe Bach – notably at the Musikverein in Vienna, the Brucknerhaus in Linz and the Tonhalle in Zurich. She is also a regular guest at international music festivals. As President of the Chopin Society in Darmstadt, German-Polish cooperation is a matter close to Aleksandra Mikulska’s heart and she is equally committed to promoting the rediscovery of lesser-known composers from her homeland such as Julian Fontana, Miłosz Magin, Artur Malawski and Karol Szymanowski.
