1996-2001 The name Αχαιοί comes from the origins of founding members Tasos Konstantinopoulos and Lefteris Ktenopoulos, both from Patras in Achaia. When the idea for a band began, that was the name they had in mind. The members met while studying in Athens. Before Αχαιοί, Vassilis Vasileiadis played in Flowers Of Romance. After recording original songs, they made a demo and sent it to labels, eventually signing with Virgin. On February 7, 1997, they played live at An Club, along with Χερουβείμ and Διόνυσος. Their debut album 49:19 came out in 1998, named after its total runtime. It was recorded at Paraktio Studio and released by Virgin. Lyrics were by Tasos Konstantinopoulos, and the CD included a lyric booklet. The song Πυξίδα was made into a video (Αχαιοί - Πυξίδα). Their second album, Αχαιοί, was released in 2000. It was recorded in Thessaloniki at Magnanimus Studio, produced by ΧΑ!!! of Giannis Aggelakas. Lyrics were again by Konstantinopoulos, except Η Ρωγμή Του Χρόνου by Manolis Rasoulis and Nikos Xydakis, which they covered. Αχαιοί disbanded about a year after their second release, following numerous live shows. They stood out in the wave of Greek-language rock bands that emerged between 1995-2002 and had a cult following that still persists to this day.
