It’s been over ten years since Raquel Berrios and Luis Del Valle first came together as artists and lovers and five since the release of their debut, Regresa, which marked the duo’s return to Puerto Rico in the wake of Hurricane Maria. In 2020 the duo found themselves putting out their debut album in the middle of a global pandemic. This was followed by the duo being priced out of their home in Aguadilla and relocating to San Juan, a monumental, surprise collab with Bad Bunny on Un Verano Sin Ti’s “Andrea” and the death of Raquel’s father in 2023. It is in these turbulent waters that the duo’s latest record, a deep dive into their own intimate story, Se Amaba Así, takes shape. "For our second studio LP we took the decided approach to turn inward, to ourselves, and explore the struggles of not only our own romantic relationship but romantic relationships in general.” The title of the album, Se Amaba Así, is deliberately open-ended. That’s how they used to love. But who are they? Ourselves, in the past, still drunk with infatuation? Our parents, who sat in silence for decades in front of the television? The jealous men and jilted women of Latin American love songs who we love to hear wail through the stereo, who fill the room with the scent of wilting gardenias?
