Sandrien is one of the most respected and versatile DJs and producers from the Netherlands. For more than 27 years she has been at the foundation of Amsterdam's underground electronic music scene, and her influence has long reached far beyond the country's borders. She began her career in 1999, initially at small parties in Amsterdam, but bigger stages soon followed: from Lowlands, Awakenings and Dekmantel in the Netherlands to Berghain in Berlin, Bassiani in Tbilisi and Rainbow Disco Club in Japan. Sandrien has played on nearly every iconic stage the electronic music world has to offer. Her signature sound moves effortlessly between ambient and deep atmospheric techno, breaks and acid, energetic yet always warm, and driven by a deep-rooted love of music. For years she worked days at the legendary Amsterdam record stores Rush Hour and Killacutz, which further fed her encyclopedic knowledge of music. In 2010 she launched her own monthly techno club night at Club Trouw: Imprint. It became a fixture of Amsterdam nightlife, a home for national and international artists alike, such as Ben Sims, DVS1, Marcel Dettmann and Rødhåd. She later became a resident at De School. Expectations, her own and other people's, and a persistent feeling of 'not being good enough' meant that no new music from her appeared for more than ten years. The album 'Compass' grew out of a desire to rediscover the fun of making music, free from expectations, genres and self-imposed perfectionism.
