Eric McEntee

Eric McEntee is a modern-day troubadour, a native Californian whose songs hold a natural cinematic pull tied to the scenes and process of their creation: a bridge overlooking the Seine in Paris where he wrote his song I'm Not Bothered By The Rain while busking, a famed studio in Brooklyn where he recorded live to tape with the prestigious Daptone records crew, a quiet park in Los Feliz which yeilded a Californian ode to nature. McEntee is a soul of the open road and pens songs that evoke this sense of wanderlust, carrying on in the American roots music tradition by blending diverse influences of folk, country, soul and jazz. True to the roots of his sound he has recorded and collaborated with members of Bob Dylan, Mavis Staples and Spoon and the Grammy winning producer's/engineer's behind Daptone records. In McEntee one can hear echoes of his forebears: the California folk and country rock cosmos of The Byrds and The Flying Burrito Brothers, the psychedelic folk of Rodriguez, the baroque-pop of Nilsson, 60’s Greenwich Village folk revivalists Fred Neil and Karen Dalton, a laid back soulful delivery inspired by Alan Toussaint and Bill Withers; all are the characteristic patchwork that is hand sewn into the world of his songwriting with an uncanny, timeless effect. That timelessness in music, is not merely looking forward or looking back but a natural repose in the songs that stays grounded to the moment, whenever you find them.
