A homegrown jazz act.
After graduating from the Conservatories of Utrecht (bachelor) and The Hague (master), Amsterdam-based pianist Erik Verwey (1987) worked for many years as a composer and accompanist of various successful theater and cabaret programs. However, in addition to his musical activities in the theatre world, Erik had a great urge, or rather a musical necessity, to write and play his own music. His debut album People Flow is a musical translation of how Erik is inspired by his encounters with people. Erik took these encounters back home to his house on the river Amstel. On People Flow people and places are translated into music and that has resulted in this special debut album in which each piece forms a portrait in his story. The music can best be described as spatial, recorded on an accessible and, from beginning to end, dynamic-sounding debut album. Cinematic improvisations are a leading part of the music, with roots in jazz and space for all three members of the trio. With drummer Daniel van Dalen, also known from Fuse (house band Podium Witteman), Erik has been playing for more than 12 years, in different formations but is indispensable for this trio. trio. Hendrik Müller, completes it in recent years with the double bass. Last year the trio played at various venues, culminating in the Bali Jazz Festival. 2023 is an exciting year for Erik Verwey Trio, as they announce a new collaboration with the great Hermine Deurloo. Stay tuned for new music.
