Exploding Pig

The Austrian alternative jazz sensation Exploding Pig is bringing a fresh breeze to the music scene with their album Jazz Futura. Released on November 3, 2023 on the New York label Planet Arts, the record transcends musical boundaries by blending jazz, hip-hop, psychedelic lounge elements, and lo-fi beats. Exploding Pig captivates with a unique sound and style inspired by American pop culture. This group of friends with rich musical backgrounds combines diverse influences into an unmistakable mix described as “Jazz Futura” or even “jazz meets 70’s porn.” With their subtle yet powerful feel-good atmosphere, they have quickly made a name for themselves. The band was formed in 2021 during the corona pandemic, when four long-time friends decided to turn an enforced pause into creative energy. Based in Graz, Exploding Pig brings together guitarist/producer Fabio Schurischuster, Grammy-winning trombonist Luis Bonilla, bassist Albi Klinger, and drummer Bernhard Wimmer. Each member contributes extensive experience—from collaborations with Phil Collins, the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra and Hubert von Goisern to decades of work in Austria’s rock, jazz, and pop scenes. The result is a sound that refuses to be boxed in: cinematic yet raw, groovy yet experimental, always playful and precise.
