An underground black metal act.
‘Mourning Earth’ is the first of our two-part ‘Elemental’ diptych – a duo of linked works that confront the manifestation of the materia of our world and how this reflects our own sorrows and our own journeys back at us. ‘Mourning Earth’ gives voice and form to our anguish – a treatise on the essence of the negativities that torment us all and threaten to overwhelm. Through imagery wrought from the totemic bleakness of the fens, via strident plateaus and uncaring tundra that wreath great tracts of the planet, this is a journey that demands confrontation with the depths of all that torments us. And yet, through this journey, understanding and acceptance can unfurl and it is possible for some modicum of inner peace to arrive. From a musical perspective, the album supports this narrative through weightier, more spacious pieces, gradually drawing the listener ever further into an unforgiving landscape. This is a slower, more deliberate record, the songs taking time to grow and layer, each aspect being given space to breath and truly underpin the earthy nature of the subject matter. The foundation here is on spacious black metal fused with elements of post-rock, post-metal and doom metal. The searing dark rage of ‘Monuments to Absence’ has receded somewhat and in its stead, a funereal, lamenting stridence now tolls throughout the music like a distant funeral bell. The essence of Fen still very much rings within this work and we invite you to join us in mourning…
