Frances Chang is a songwriter, producer, film composer, and video artist. Largely self-taught as a musician, Chang’s output has long been marked by a sense of the bizarre, emotional rawness, and experimentation. Born to immigrant parents in Chicago and raised in New York, Chang’s musical practice grew largely autonomously through her bedroom recordings. Her formative live experiences were shaped by an early exposure to DIY punk, emo and post-hardcore scenes. been thinking bout confession, Chang’s third album and her most ambitious and personal work to date, finds the singer’s suddenly diaphanous vocals guiding instrumentation that vacillates between the frenetic and the oceanic. She is 1/2 of Die Artist, an experimental ambient duo.
