An underground indie rock act.
Ham by the Pound is Evan Quigley (Guitar), Sir Harvey Johnson (Bass), and Will Smith (Drums). The trio met in a federal prison in 2016, all facing separate charges of tax and securities fraud. They bonded over their love of music and distaste for the IRS, and started writing music through 2018 and 2019. They released their debut EP, “Heather,” on Valentine’s Day of 2020. When guitarist Matthew Smith joined the group in 2022, he was originally an undercover federal agent on a mission to gather incriminating evidence to bring Ham by the Pound back into custody. However, Smith was seduced by the band's intoxicating rhythms and twinkling guitars, and decided to leave his government past behind him to become a full time member of Ham by the Pound. The band's first full-length LP, "Ham By The Pound", was released in July 2024, led by hit singles “Alice,” released on Sir Johnson’s twentieth birthday, March 18th of 2022, and the second single, "Moonshower," released on National Bicarbonate of Soda Day (December 30th) of the same year. The album has been extraordinarily well-received by critics, resulting in multiple Instagram DMs from singer Dua Lipa that Sir Johnson decried as "unprofessionally thirsty". The band is currently involved in New York and New Jersey's local music scenes, while engaging in mostly nonviolent activism to raise awareness for sharks and other sea creatures.
Ham by the Pound plays melodic indie rock and alternative rock, blending twinkling guitar hooks with driving rhythms as heard on their self-titled 2024 debut album.
Ham by the Pound is based in New Jersey.
