Hillarynx is a multi-tonal vocalist known for her ability to fuse political themes with emotional intensity in her music. The 20-sweething from South London, influenced by Betty Carter, Erykah Badu, Nina Simone and Skunk Anansie. With a background in politics and a passion for social justice, her compositions often explore complex societal issues. If you ever see her live, you know she will yap - it will be deep but not too heavy. “The 3rd”, released in July 2024 and produced by her and fellow band members; Anna Adetiba, Raef Commissar, Hamish Rooser, James Tong Han Lee and Sravudh Tanhai also known as the Essence explores the impact of abuses of power. Hillarynx and the essence have dedicated a ⅓ of bandcamp sales to Sistah Space, a charity supporting Black Women facing Domestic Violence and abuse. As a late bloomer in music (started as an artist at 25 years old) she has been nurtured by London Jazz Scene; not only has she performed at Southbank Centre and Jazz Cafe with Orii Community, she has also performed at Peckham Festival, 91 Living Room and Another Groove in Marrakech. In fact, Hillarynx and the Essence wouldn't exist without the London Jazz Jams as that's how they built their relationships.
