Holland Baroque
A polished baroque artist.
Holland Baroque is an original and innovative baroque orchestra, known for placing baroque music in the here and now. Founded in 2006, the ensemble has worked with many soloists, composers, choirs, and theatre producers. Tineke and Judith Steenbrink are the artistic team and beating heart of the ensemble. These baroque twins curate the ensemble’s sound, create original programmes, and rewrite repertoire according to Holland Baroque’s style. Encounters with soloists result in warm friendships and unlock new worlds of sound. The easy blend of Eric Vloeimans’ velvety sound with the cornetto shows us that baroque is now. Together, this trumpet whisperer and Holland Baroque were awarded an Edison for their album Carrousel. Touring with piano virtuoso Leszek Możdżer proved that in a baroque orchestra the score can keep changing when the composer is improvising among the musicians. Love is Crazy with punk diva Sven Ratzke, and Silk Baroque with sheng player Wu Wei show the ensemble's versitality. Through extensive research, the Steenbrink sisters discovered a treasure trove of repertoire and brought forth appreciation of forgotten 17th-century composers like Benedictus a Sancto Josepho. The orchestra has received widespread recognition through their collaboration with singer-songwriter Daniël Lohues and composer Reinbert de Leeuw, which left a deep and lasting impression. www.hollandbaroque.com
