Idema/Serierse Quartet

In the Idema/Serierse Quartet, Gijs Idema and Anna Serierse search for new ways to blend guitar and vocals together. Seen from a more sound based perspective, they strive for a perfect harmony between their two instruments, supported by the solid base of double bassist Cas Jiskoot and drummer Tim Hennekes. In 2019 they won the prestigious Keep an Eye The Records competition, which gave them the support to record their debut album MOTUS (2020). This album was nominated for an Edison Award. Their second album Cloud Studies was released in may 2023, and contains music that was composed together by Idema and Serierse. This composing collaboration was something that deepened their musical connection even more. Idema and Serierse’s goal was to convert painting styles into composition techniques, and translate those onto their own musical canvas. The quartet finished their Cloud Studies Tour at the North Sea Jazz Festival 2024. For their third album, the quartet decided to merge the quartet sound they built throughout the years with the music that brought them together in the first place: the standards from the American songbook. For this special album they chose songs that are lesser known, though very close to their hearts. They recorded the music in one of Amsterdam’s most beautiful theaters: de Roode Bioscoop. This album will release in April 2025.
