An underground indie folk artist.
James Crowley writes about desire, the relationships that shape us, and the messy business of love with a clarity that indie folk rarely affords its queer voices. On Imprint, his new EP co-written with Joel Amey of Wolf Alice, that clarity sharpens into something genuinely new: a record that moves from the reckless rush of a night out into the harder, quieter work of figuring out what love looks like on your own terms. The London-based songwriter's unfurling vocal harmonies draw from indie and folk traditions while reaching toward a choice share of pop credibility; a sound that sits comfortably alongside Laura Marling, Big Thief or Bombay Bicycle Club, but carries a melodic sensibility, and a perspective, all his own.
