Jan Paulsen, known as JAPAU, was born in Berlin, Germany. It all began in 2020, at a time when the world stood still. With clubs closed and everyday life restricted, the usual outlet of partying disappeared overnight. Searching for a way to release stress from work and personal life, Jan and a group of friends rented a small studio space. What started as a place to make music quickly turned into their own private escape. Someone was always behind the decks, soundtracking long nights that blurred the line between session and party. Throughout the pandemic, he remained consistent, uploading mixes every weekend on SoundCloud across different channels, steadily building his identity and refining his style. When the world reopened, opportunity followed. An unexpected email led to his first official booking in Groningen, Netherlands. That night marked a turning point. What began as a personal escape quickly evolved into something much bigger. Since then, JAPAU’s career has taken off, bringing him to renowned stages and across borders, from South America to Hungary, Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands. Turning passion into a full-time career became a reality he once could not have imagined. Driven by the need to express himself beyond DJing, he continues to push deeper into music production, constantly evolving his sound. Working with tools like the Elektron Analog Rytm MKII alongside Ableton Live.
