A nostalgic, underground neofolk artist.
Change is a force of nature. When folk singer and historical instrumentalist Kati Rán embarked on her a music career, it was so that a new, primal vision could emerge, unbound by conventional song structure, weaving nature, mythology and ancient history together in a folkloric and dark sound tapestry where intuition and the elemental meet. Kati Rán is a Dutch audio producer, lyricist, vocalist and historic sound multi-instrumentalist. As a performer on Nordic, medieval and various ethnic instruments since the early 2000's she is considered a genre pioneer in the dark folk genre. Kati Rán is signed with Svart Records (Finland) and releases her new Dark Folk music album 'SÁLA' ( Old Norse for 'Sea' and 'Soul') on May 24th 2024, produced by Kati Rán and Jaani Peuhu (Swallow the Sun, IANAI, Mercury Circle, Hallatar, Lord of the Lost), and features a continuation of her collaboration with Norwegian black metal vocalist 'Gaahl' (Trelldom, Gaahls's wyrd, Wardruna) and an array of other Nordic voices and traditional instrumentalists. According to Kati Rán "Music is a reminder that we are part of nature and can be considered as one of the strongest ways to communicate with one another on a deeply intimate and personal level. Music can transmit universal emotions and a connection to wisdom that reverberates through all ages". Kati Rán works in various music departments as a musician, engineer and vocalist for tv-, film and videogame sound productions.
