Lluis Capdevila
Lluís Capdevila (1981) grew up surrounded by the vineyards of Priorat, near the Mediterranean Sea in Catalonia, Northeastern Spain. From an early age, music became his natural language of expression—improvisation and composition came instinctively. Although he initially earned a Law degree in Barcelona and a Master’s in Intellectual Property Law in Stockholm, he ultimately left that path to follow his true passion: music. Thanks to a Fulbright grant, jazz led him to New York City, where he earned a Master’s in Jazz Performance at the Aaron Copland School and later a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Stony Brook University. During his years in New York, he collaborated with jazz icons such as Tom Harrell and Joe Lovano, as well as rising stars like Petros Klampanis and Luca Santaniello. As a recording artist, Capdevila has released a series of albums that blend lyricism, cinematic textures, and Mediterranean roots: Diaspora (2016), Daybreak Explorations (2018), Cinematic Radio (2019), Ètim (2020), Social (2021), Lament (2023), and Mompou Revisited: Intimate Impressions (2024). He is currently a professor at Universidad Internacional de La Rioja (UNIR), combining his academic work with an active international career as a performer and composer.
