Luka Schuurman

Starting out playing in the local band scene, Amsterdam-based guitarist and composer Luka Schuurman (1997) began experimenting with more abstract sounds as a solo artist and composer.
Often working with improvisation, Schuurman is always looking for interesting sounds and new ways of achieving them. This results in music that is often described as cinematic and visual, taking the listener on a journey into new worlds never discovered. His upcoming album Cuidado releases on July 19 and consists of six melancholic pieces for solo acoustic guitar, inspired by the mountains of Northeast Portugal and the wildfires that filled the sky with otherworldly colors. Other projects include abstract krautrock band Halli Crigi and various collaborative albums such as Flight of a Drunken Butterfly, Vol. 1 & 2 (2019, with Benedict aka Teun Putker, D.B. Caulfield, Queen's Pleasure), Eigengrau (2023, with Dylan Jaring) and Selenograffity (2022, with Joeri Verdegaal). His nine-piece drone compositions Guitar Static and Snare Drum Static show Schuurman working with influences from process music, with human physicality as the process. He also composes music for theatre and contributed a piece for art punk band The Earwurms on their remix album MeCallMaybe ? (2021). In 2023, Schuurman toured with The Telescopes, filling in on guitar for four shows.
