An underground contemporary classical artist.
Mathis Saunier is a French composer, based in London, UK. He is a founding member, guitarist, and composer of the industrial band Mauvais Sang, signed under the December Square label. In 2022, he graduated with a Bachelor's degree with Honors in composition at the Guildhall School Music & Drama in London where he studied with Matthew Kaner and Hollie Harding. He is a Britten Pears Young Artist 2023/24. Passionate about cinema, his musical universe is a fusion of electronic music (with techno, ambient, and industrial influences) acoustics, and visual art, to which he attaches great importance. His music is performed in Europe and Canada in venues such as Barbican (London), Festival Antigel (Geneva), Musica Festival (Strasbourg), Leeds Lieder Festival, Milton Court, LSO St Luke’s, and Snape Maltings. Besides those projects, Mathis developed a conceptual instrument based on a guitar setup to obtain the sound of the Ondes Martenot. He collaborated with composers such as Anna Meredith, Laurence Crane, and Paul Newland on his Ondes Martenot arrangements album.
Mathis Saunier creates contemporary classical and ambient electronic music, blending minimalist guitar work with industrial and acoustic textures.
His live performances feature intricate minimalist guitar arrangements and conceptual setups evoking traditional electronic instruments like the Ondes Martenot.
