Matthias Van den Brande Trio
Within a few years, the Matthias Van den Brande Trio has managed to put itself firmly on the European jazz map. With several major awards in their pocket (B-Jazz International Contest & Tremplin Jazz 'Concours Européen' Avignon), they released their debut album 'Three Sides of a Coin' in 2023, which was enthusiastically received in Belgium, the Netherlands, France and Spain during an international release tour in the same year. While handling a lineup without chordal instrument in a modern and unique way, the music remains highly accessible through strong interplay and melodic compositions rooted in the jazz tradition. With their new show ‘Fields of Color’, they draw inspiration from the fabulous paintings of Mark Rothko, the 20th century grandmaster of abstract expressionism. Especially for this new project, the incomparable trumpeter Jean-Paul Estiévenart joins the trio. “The trio's improvisations are rhythmically and melodically extraordinarily inventive.” Cyriel Pluimakers, Jazzenzo “It was an amazing and perfectly accessible concert with three exceptional and very fine instrumentalists who well deserved their two prizes.” Florence Ducommun, Jazzin.fr “This music is dense and deep, ... an album full of surprises, to be listened to carefully.” Jean-Claude Vantroyen, Le Soir Matthias Van den Brande - Saxophone Tijs Klaassen - Double Bass Wouter Kühne - Drums
