Mircea Baniciu started his career in '70es as a vocal lead of the Romanian rock band Phoenix. Together with Phoenix he launched 3 albums which are considered best rock-opera albums of Romania. Songs of the band have become evergreens, and are still very popular today - Andrii Popa, Nunta, Mugur de Fluier, Fata verde, Mica Tiganiada. The band dismantled when the group members decided to leave the communist Romania hidden in their Marshall speakers, while Mircea Baniciu decided to remain. In the '80es he launched 4 solo albums - "Albumul Galben", "Ploaia", "Secunda 1" and "Secunda 2". He composed most of songs himself, on lyrics of famous Romanian poets. In this time he has become one of the famous singers in Romania, with a number of songs became absolute hits - Esarfa in dar, Daca ai ghici, Scrisoare de bun ramas, Vara la tara, Tristeti provinciale, Pisica neagra, Dealul cu dor. After '90 he was part of the "Pasarea Colibri" group, which was one of the most successfull FolkRock bands. Together with his colleagues Florian Pittis, Mircea Vintila and Vlady Cnejevici , they were singing more actual versions of their repertoires. The band became a local phenomenon which was acclaimed by the fans of the rock/folk music around the country. Nowadays he continues his solo career together with his own band forming the group "Mircea Baniciu & Band". He has launched a BEST OF Collection of his music in 3 volumes, with songs re-recorded and re-mastered.
