An underground experimental jazz act.
MŁYN are a Wrocław trio made up of Sebastian Milewski — keys, Cezary Rosiński — modular synthesizer, and Michał Wdowikowski — drums. They move between leftfield jazz, improvised music and experimental electronics, building tracks around rhythm, texture, repetition and the constant interplay between keys, drums and electronics. Over the years, they have developed their own way of working, where musical precision and complex ideas sit comfortably alongside irreverence, messing around, pastiche and a reluctance to take themselves too seriously. What matters is intuition, shared experience and seeing how far something can be pushed, twisted or complicated while still holding together. MŁYN’s music is made collectively, mostly through improvisation. Ideas pass back and forth between the musicians, changing shape, tempo, function and sound until they start to settle into form. The electronics respond to the drums and keys, process them and interact with them directly, making the whole band function like a single, constantly changing organism. MŁYN are also deeply rooted in Wrocław’s artistic community. All three have been part of the Wkurvv collective for years, and one of the band’s key places remains Pracownia Hutmen — a rehearsal space and interdisciplinary arts hub.
