Occults
A nostalgic, underground darkwave artist.
Described as "Gloomgaze/Post-Punkery" by Procession Magazine Los Angeles-based OCCULTS is a Post-Punk/Shoegaze revival project formed by #1 Billboard recording artist, Emilio Hernandez and drummer, Patrick Lawrence. The pair have been best-friends, bandmates, and writing partners for over 20 years - first meeting in 2001 and forming the dance rock band Nothing Still. During the gloom and depression of the pandemic, Hernandez began writing all new music and sending demos to Lawrence, to which he could only describe as “the music we had been wanting to write since we were teenagers, but were never talented enough to make.” The result was a combination of aggressively fast rhythms, Johnny Marr-esque guitar melodies, and dreamy beside vocals by Hernandez. They have since built a worldwide fan-base through tracks like Crystal Coffins, Hot Crucible and Depeche Mode - an ode to the band that inspired them as teenagers. In 2024, OCCULTS released their first full-length album and vinyl “RITUALS” through Midnight Mannequin Records and are currently touring the country in support of it.
