Producer Atakan Senlen aka Otuk filters Istanbul melodies through the sounds of Berlin’s urban sprawl, each subtle sonic gesture revealing the deep connections between the two cities. Senlen’s debut EP as Otuk, Gunyuzum masterfully transmutes both ancient and modern sonics into sprawling psychogeographies, conjuring palpable memories and emotion borne aloft by hypnotic rhythms. Born in Turkey but now based in Berlin, Senlen imbibes a truly omnivorous array of influences in his music, blending traditional Turkish and Arabic music and Anatolian psych with organic house and electronic music. Otuk explains the idea behind Gunyuzum: “This is a chaotic square where the contrasts and dilemmas meet together and are fused into each other. It is a set of times and places where inconsistencies become consistent, where contradictions are gathered with a harmony.” Gunyuzum invites the listener to discover where they stand between opposite poles in these clouds of entangled contrasts.”
