An underground indie pop act.
Combining art rock arrangements, surreal lyricism, and an arch vocal delivery, Peter Cat’s signature sound is at turns both playful and apocalyptic (sometimes both at once). It's as if Pulp and King Crimson got involved in a mild fender-bender on the M1 - and neither one had insurance. Initially a solo recording project from singer and songwriter Graham Gillespie, Peter Cat has now expanded into an arena-leaning, five-piece live band featuring members of Glasgow music scene alumni like Mercy Girl and Sulka. At their 2025 album launch, The Skinny praised the band for creating “a sound that is challenging, alluring, and never boring.” Peter Cat signed with "East Anglia's premier record label", Trapped Animal, in late 2025 to release their sophomore LP, 'Starchamber' – a highly ambitious epic bringing together prog, art punk and lo-fi electronica that was covered in MOJO, Record Collector, and on the Bandcamp global homepage. The band are keeping the gears firmly grinding into 2026 with the release of their latest single 'Innocent Driver', a slice of razor-sharp pop with an endearingly unconventional presentation, which received radio play from BBC Scotland Introducing, Amy Lamé on BBC6 Music, and more. In October, Peter Cat undertake their most ambitious live outing yet, a 12-date UK tour of the UK, kicking off in Glasgow and concluding with a slot at Edinburgh’s Cowgate Block Party festival, to coincide with their forthcoming ‘Peacocking’ EP.
