Re-TROS
A homegrown chinese indie artist.
Founded in Beijing in 2003 by 华东, Lumi Liu, and Huang Jin, Re-TROS (Rebuilding the Rights of Statues) is one of China’s most influential experimental rock bands. Albums like CUT OFF, Watch Out! Climate Has Changed…, and Before the Applause show their precise structures, emotional restraint, and meticulously crafted sound. They also toured as a guest for Depeche Mode, bringing their style to international stages. Their live shows deepen this identity. Re-TROS avoids theatricality and virtuoso gestures, using exact rhythms, strict dynamics, and spatial tension to create immersion. Minimal forms are dense and deliberate — a compressed, inward-pulling release. Shaped by a highly organized, hierarchical culture, they absorb its absurdity, symbolism, and critical tone, drawing from literature, film, and contemporary art. Nonlinear lyrics, electronic textures, and machine-instrument interplay form layered spaces balancing minimalism and emotional weight. Internationally, Re-TROS is known for refined craft and cross-cultural resonance, collaborating with Brian Eno, Amen Dunes' Damon McMahon, and Hector Castillo. Merch: https://re-tros.band/shop
