The Rising Stars performs a mixture of Pop, Hip Hop, Blues and Gospel. The Rising Stars have worked with greats like Eric Clapton, Mavis Staples, Cyndi Lauper, Bobby Rush, The North Mississippi All-stars, Birds of Chicago, G.Love and Special Sauce, Cedric Burnside, R.L. Boyce, and many others. The Rising Stars performed in Southaven, MS at the grand opening for the Tanger Outlet Mall in 2015, performed in Washington, DC at the grand opening for the National Museum of African American History and Culture in 2016. In 2023 the Rising Stars were selected to be a part of the American Music Abroad tour. We were selected to travel Senegal and Guinea Bissau. The Rising Stars are very passionate about youth. Along with passing on the dying history of Fife and drum music, the stars are very passionate about equal/high-quality education for all youth around the globe.
Rising Stars Fife and Drum Band blends traditional Mississippi fife and drum music with blues, hip hop, and gospel, as heard on their album "Evolution of Fife and Drum Music."
The band is led by Fife Master Shardé Thomas, granddaughter of Othar Turner, and percussionist Chris Mallory.
The band originates from Tate County, Mississippi, deeply rooted in the region's rich musical heritage.
