An underground indie folk artist.
Rod Coote is an Australian indie folk singer-songwriter whose music blends expansive acoustic arrangements with reflective storytelling inspired by nature, travel & the emotional journey between moving the countryside to the coastline. Originally from the small New South Wales town of Manilla & now based in Melbourne/Naarm, his songs are spacious & rooted in the landscapes surrounding his life, exploring the deep nuances of the human condition. Rod’s supported & worked alongside Ziggy Alberts, Garrett Kato, Bear's Den , Salt Tree, Hayden Calnin , The Dreggs, Mark Wilkinson, Kim Churchill & Steph Strings. Finding songwriting as a teenager influenced by Ben Howard, The Paper Kites, Gregory Alan Isakov, Dustin Tebbutt, Rod’s indie folk music creates a quiet comforting & calming space for listeners in solitude & shared at live shows that he’s played across Australia, Europe, United Kingdom & Ireland. Rod’s studio EP’s ‘Wander’, ‘Half Moon Bay’, ‘Where Rivers Meet The Sea’, ‘New England’ & ‘The Leap’ were recorded with acclaimed artist-producers Garrett Kato, Tim Hart and Hein Cooper. His latest single ‘Driftwood’ is the first song released from a new collection of songs produced by Hayden Calnin in 2026.
