Simon Chivallon
A native of Bordeaux, Simon Chivallon taught himself to play the piano, before studying jazz and classical music at the Bordeaux conservatory. He then moved to Paris to study at the Pôle Supérieur Paris Boulogne-Billancourt, then at the Centre Musical Didier Lockwood, where he studied with noted pianists Baptiste Trotignon, Bojan Z and Benoit Sourisse. The Paris clubs, jam sessions at the Duc des Lombards in particular, were the occasions to test himself against musicians such as the likes of Jon Boutellier, Gaël Horellou and Géraud Portal. In 2017, he recorded his first album, « Flying Wolf », a quartet with Boris Blanchet (tenor and soprano saxophone), Géraud Portal (acoustic bass), Antoine Paganotti (drums) and guests Julien Alour (trumpet) and Baptiste Herbin (alto saxophone). He is also a member of several groups : bassist Pierre Marcus’s quartet, vibraphonist Alexis Valet’s quintet, vibraphonist Simon Moullier’s group and Julien Dubois’ band Le Jardin. His first trio album “Light Blue” imposes with brio the sensitivity and lyricism of an artist for whom jazz is clearly an instinctive language.
