An underground psychedelic pop artist.
Opulent, psychedelic art-pop mini-symphonies from London. STEVE'S 9TH INCARNATION is the London-based project of songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Steve Head, returning in 2026 with PERSPLEXTIVES — an opulent, strings-laden three-track EP beginning an extended run of new music. The EP emerged unexpectedly from three days at Oxfordshire’s cavern-like Challow Park Studios. Head had taken the band there to rehearse a new live show; three days later, they were “different people who’d accidentally made an EP.” Augmented by a string quartet arranged by Ivan Hussey (Liam Gallagher, Mick Jagger, Duran Duran), the result is psychedelic art-pop on a widescreen scale: ambitious, occasionally overblown, and fond of a big ending. Lead single Across The Multiverse is an orchestral mini-symphony of piano and strings. “This one largely wrote itself on waking to find a somewhat conclusive message in red lipstick on the bathroom mirror. The story of a doomed if cherished romance. Autumnal. No immediate link to the accompanying pigeon video.” Steve’s 9th Incarnation first appeared with 2018’s 9TH INCARNATION, featuring members of Television Personalities, Japanese Television and The Clientele. PERSPLEXTIVES opens a new chapter for the project, with two albums following in 2027. PRAISE FOR 9TH INCARNATION, the 2018 debut: “Experimental and unique music that puts a new spin on psychedelia” - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ New Noise Magazine “Reincarnates the essence of British psych” - Echoes and Dust
