Susato Trio

The Susato Trio takes its name from Tielman Susato, the sixteenth-century Antwerp composer and music publisher who founded the first music publishing house in the Low Countries. Like their namesake, the ensemble is committed to bringing music to a wide audience and enjoys exploring both well-known works of the piano trio repertoire and lesser-known music that deserves to be heard more often. Founded in Antwerp in 2022, the trio consists of violinist Sarah Bayens, cellist Mikko Pablo, and pianist Markiyan Popil. Since its formation, the ensemble has established itself as a regular presence on the European chamber music scene, performing at venues including Concertgebouw Amsterdam, BOZAR Brussels, Flagey, and Amare The Hague. The trio has also been recognised at several international chamber music competitions, receiving numerous prizes and distinctions. The ensemble’s artistic development has been enriched through its participation in the European Chamber Music Academy, where they have worked closely with leading chamber musicians and pedagogues from across Europe. Among them are Johannes Meissl, Patrick Jüdt, Ellen Corver, Avedis Kouyoumdjian, and members of the Casals Quartet and the Danish String Quartet. These experiences continue to influence the trio's work today.
