The Bravery
A nostalgic indie rock artist.
Formed during the height of the ‘00s New York City post-punk revival, the Bravery combined stylish ‘80s Punk/New Wave with introspective lyrics and myriad musical influences including electronica, funk, dance-punk, pop and shoegaze. They have released three critically-acclaimed albums and a series of Top 10 singles, including enduring radio staples such as “An Honest Mistake” and “Believe.” The band originally began as the recording project of two school friends, singer/songwriter Sam Endicott and keyboardist John Conway, after they moved to New York City in the early ‘00s. The first album was recorded in their bedrooms, after which an ad was placed on Craigslist looking for band members to play the material live. Guitarist Michael Zakarin responded, and brought with him best friend Michael Hindert who was assigned the bass. Drummer Anthony Burulcich was met through mutual friends. The newly-assembled band played their first show at the Stinger Club in Brooklyn, and word-of-mouth quickly led to regular performances in NYC and Boston, followed by a residency at Arlene’s Grocery in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. The band self-promoted by handing out CDs and postering the Lower East Side and Brooklyn. As an unsigned band, An Honest Mistake started getting radio airplay on Zane Lowe’s Radio One show in the UK as well as Live 105 in San Francisco and WFNX in Boston. In 2015 the band announced that they were on indefinite hiatus.
