An underground dark ambient artist from the local scene.
The Breedling is the cinematic industrial project of Norfolk-based musician, designer and storyteller Chris Spalton, creating slow-burning electronic music steeped in folklore, landscape and dread. Built from layers of analogue synthesis, distorted electronics, found textures and crushing low-end, the music sits somewhere between industrial, doom, dark ambient and soundtrack work. Each release explores a single place, story or piece of forgotten history, treating East Anglia’s marshes, myths and abandoned spaces as characters in their own right. Following Irukandji (2023) and Detritus (2024), both released through Wrong Speed Records, 2026’s A Straunge and Terrible Wunder turns its attention to the legend of Black Shuck. Divided into two halves — Origin and Undying — the album traces the infamous East Anglian hellhound from its first recorded appearance in 1577 through centuries of folklore, memory and fear. Live, The Breedling delivers immersive, high-volume performances that blur the line between gig and soundtrack, building tension through weight, atmosphere and repetition rather than spectacle. Folklore. Ruins. Landscape, Fendustrial dread. Heavy electronic music from the flatlands of East Anglia.
