The Maritime County are a young four piece from Leeds, fronted by singer and songwriter Leo Gavaghan. Gavaghan was quite literally born into performing. His father Sean was an All Ireland piano accordion champion, and Leo grew up around Leeds' bustling Irish music community, performing from an early age at the Irish Centre and associated events before eventually finding his way to writing his own songs. In late 2025, the then 17 year old songwriter formed The Maritime County, taking the band's name from County Mayo, traditionally known as “The Maritime County”.After a couple of changes, the band found their first settled line up, with Libby Mellor on bass, Tom Webster on drums and Dylan Brown on lead guitar. The band began rehearsing, playing live and releasing snippets of music online, quickly attracting more than 14,000 Instagram followers and building a growing hometown following. The Maritime County released their first track, The End, in 2026, generating more than 22,000 Spotify streams. Their new single Riverside, produced by Embrace guitarist Rick McNamara, marks the beginning of the band's next chapter.
