An underground bluegrass act.
The Royal Hillbilly Club is a Dutch group, playing high energy bluegrass and folk. The band's live reputation is notorious. The four musicians fire their eclectic sound with the speed of a derailed steam train over their audience. In an attempt to share the joy the band experiences on stage. The band consists of Paul Bollongino (vocals and mandoline), Chris East (double bass and vocals), Gijs Mak (banjo) and Symen Verbruggen (guitar and vocals). The group started out in the city of Hilversum, famous for both national acclaimed television studios as its wide lakes and heath. This being the inspiration for the band's mix of traditional instrumentation and modern songwriting. The Royal Hillbilly Club performed at festivals and in clubs, at concert venues and in pubs all over Europe. Playing renowned Dutch venues like Paradiso and Melkweg, and festivals like Zwarte Cross, Paaspop and Oerol.
