The Voodoo Child was formed in 2018 by longtime friends Andrei Cerbu (lead guitar), Robert Ciubotaru (bass), and Teodor Cușnir (drums). With their first vocalist, Alexandra Dodoi, they played blues at major festivals across Romania, released their debut album Some Kind of Blues, toured nationwide, and won “Best Newcomer” (2018) and “Confirmation of the Year” (2019). In 2021, Romina Apostol joined as lead singer. During the pandemic the band worked on their second album while releasing several singles. Romina also earned third place at Superstar Romania in 2021. Their second studio album, From The Dark (2023), blends hard rock/metal elements with blues influences and tells a tragic love story. That same year, their performance at Constelații Rock Râmnicu Vâlcea earned them second place, the Popularity Award, and two individual prizes: Best Vocalist (Romina) and Best Drummer (Teodor). In 2024, the band released their first Romanian songs, “Vin” and “Plec,” two emotional tracks exploring longing, loss, release, and acceptance—born from raw feelings, revisions, and a few bottles of wine. In 2025, The Voodoo Child won the East European Rock Alliance Young Rock Contest, standing out among 130 bands from across Eastern Europe.
