An underground, nostalgic indie pop act.
Forged in the white heat of indie’s golden age in the 80’s, eloquent sophistipop godfathers Vernons Future play indie guitar pop of the old school - a mix of classic guitar jangle, with hints of 60s psychedelia and a little melancholia. They think you’ll like their music if you like XTC, Blur, Richard Hawley, The Bunnymen, Lightning Seeds, The Teardrop Explodes, The Doors. After releasing acclaimed debut album ‘Smithdown Road’ (Melody Maker said it was “a fine debut in love with pop at its most unassuming and most charming”) on legendary Liverpool label Probe Plus in 1990, The Vernons (as they were then known) promptly split with members cast to the winds and spread across the world. Reformed as Vernons Future, the band rejoined a very different indie music fray, releasing their sophomore album ‘Aquaplaning’ in 2022. Singles Steerpike and Waxwings followed in 2024. “Vernons Future have gone those extra notches and made their something special” ~ Nightshift magazine (making Waxwings their track of the month) "A magnificent transition from art-rock to the sound that would become best known as Britpop.... their high water mark" ~ The Spill Magazine “Love it…it’s a great record…a beautiful piece of recording” (on ’Just Can’t Help Myself’) ~ Mickey Bradley, The Undertones & BBC Radio Ulster DJ "Perfect collision of pop and rock" ~ Amplify Music Mag "A cracking slice of indie rock..." ~ Slacker Shack https://linktr.ee/vernonsfuture
