NYC born, Whitney Tai is a songwriter, vocalist, and poet. Her music is inspired by her passion for nature. A lover of dogs, cats, and cows, her music is an aural medicine, healing the emotionally & spiritually wounded. At age 7, her first performance was the 4 Non Blondes hit “What’s up?” with her father on guitar. She studied at NYSID & worked in Architectural Design while writing & performing her music in NYC. Moving to LA in 2018, Tai was named one of the best live bands in Los Angeles and named Best Vocalist at the 2021 ICMA awards. Critics describe her music as a cinematic, genre-blurring assault that fuses the theatrical art-rock of Kate Bush, the fierce command of Annie Lennox, and the haunting, heavy-guitar melodicism of Evanescence. Tai has released 3 albums: American Wasteland, Apogee and Metamorphosis, with her unique symphonic sound. Her collabs include: Heartracer, Beauty in Chaos, Mike Green, Julian Beeston, Harry Vato, Sunfreakz and Chuck Wright. Tai wrote & co-produced "American Wasteland" with TommyHatz between 2021-24, a tumultuous period in her life. The record is a definitive blueprint for her self-styled "sludge pop" universe. It seamlessly balances beautiful, bruised melodies with a heavy, industrial undertone. What is the Wasteland? It’s losing your mother when you’re 10 years old. It’s surviving the emotional paralysis of abuse. It’s economic, immoral, & political decay. It’s a heartbeat under the pain that refuses to die.
