About

Xenia Löffler has gained an excellent reputation in recent years with her distinctive oboe sound and convincing interpretations. Critics praise her "completely self-evident virtuosity" and her "elegant tone, rich in colour and nuance." (klassik.com) She has been a member and principal oboist of the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin since 2001 and also performs as a soloist and chamber musician with other ensembles and orchestras under renowned conductors worldwide. Sir John Eliot Gardiner's invitation to participate as solo oboist in his Bach Cantata Pilgrimage in 2000 was certainly one of the formative experiences of her musical career. Trained at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, she is particularly interested in researching and recording unknown oboe repertoire. In the meantime, numerous solo CDs have been released on labels such as Accent (together with the Batzdorfer Hofkapelle and Prague's Collegium 1704), Harmonia Mundi France (a.o. different albums with solo concertos with Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin and a Bach album with Isabelle Faust) and Supraphon (Collegium 1704 und Collegium Marianum). Some of these recordings received important awards (Diapason d'Or) or nominations, among others for the BBC Music Awards as well as the Gramophone Award. Xenia Löffler gives master classes in Germany and abroad, has been artistic director of the Summer Academy Neuburg an der Donau since 2018 and holds a professorship for historical oboes at the University of the Arts in Berlin.
