A nostalgic, raw big band night.
The Mingus Big Band performs exclusively the music of the celebrated American composer, bassist, and activist Charles Mingus. Created by Sue Mingus, this 14-piece ensemble features arrangements of Mingus compositions in a large band format, providing a platform for deep exploration and individual artistic expression. Drawing from a rotation of New York City's top established and emerging musicians, the band continues its legacy with the legendary Mingus Mondays residency. The group has received seven Grammy nominations, including a recent one for The Charles Mingus Centennial Sessions, and won a Grammy in 2011 for Live at Jazz Standard.
