A nostalgic, underground baroque night.
Les Arts Florissants and the French grand motet have a long history, as this repertoire helped define the ensemble since its founding in 1979. Unlike the smaller motet, the grand motet is a lavish French genre featuring double or large choruses. While established by Lully and developed by composers like Charpentier and Mondonville, the genre is now inseparable from William Christie and his musicians, who continue to reveal new masterpieces from this repertoire every season.
