Rudolf Buchbinder concludes his complete cycle of Beethoven’s Piano Concertos with the Fifth, nicknamed “Emperor” for its ambition and grandeur. One of Beethoven’s foremost interpreters, Buchbinder performs the monumental work alongside conductor Xian Zhang. The program opens with Beethoven’s joyous Fourth Symphony, which Robert Schumann described as “a slender Greek maiden between two Norse giants,” highlighting its ideal Classical structure between the more imposing Third and Fifth symphonies.
