The evening opens with Edward Elgar's Enigma Variations, a series of fourteen musical portraits dedicated to the composer's closest friends and family members, including the iconic Nimrod variation. The performance concludes with Sergei Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 2, a masterpiece of the piano repertoire that marked the end of the composer's creative block and was dedicated to the physician who helped him recover his artistic voice.
